Avonside Merino Stud was founded in 1990 at the family property “Avonside” near Berridale. The stud moved to its new home “Muniong” between Cooma and Adaminaby in 2010. Our aim to produce large framed, structurally sound sheep, capable of consistently producing heavy fleeces of fine-medium wool remains unchanged. Over the years we have reduced adult fibre diameter to 18 -19 micron whilst still making gains in both wool cuts and bodyweights.

Emphasis has been placed on wool quality, which must be stylish, well nourished, long stapled with superior handle and measurements. We believe that this blend of fine-medium wool, combined with high body and fleece weights is consistently the most profitable.

The fantastic loyal support from our clients continues to drive our passion to breed and offer functional and profitable merinos. It gives us the confidence to invest in industry leading genetics, both through AI and the purchase of new sires. We were excited to be able to purchase the $20,000 top price ram at Cottage Park last year and are confident that his tremendous bone, barrel, and carcase measurements combined with a great skin and wool, will continue to drive our flock forward and further enhance the profitability of our genetics. Industry leading genetics have been sourced from studs including Roseville Park, Langdene, Tara Park, Yarrawonga, and Cottage Park to ensure that we are producing rams that breed true to type, heavy cutting profitable merinos.
